February 6th 2025 - CRA Hosts "Wildfires and Emergency Preparedness - Live Q&A with the Chiefs"
With the devastation in Southern California, this raises local concerns to know how our Village is prepared and preventing the possibilities including property owners, residents, businesses and the City teams. The format for this community briefing was interactive Q&A with our Police Commander Todd Trayer and Fire Chief Andrew Miller and City Administrator Chip Rerig with Staff too. Our thanks to all of them for their support and service.
Topics discussed: Connecting with remote 2nd Home Owners, Addressing Pescadero Canyon, Mission Trail Nature Preserve and High Fire Zones, Fire protection inspection programs & resources, What you can do to "harden" (or protect) your Home with Defensible Space and more, Mutual/Unified Command for Emergency Response, Fire Hydrant Readiness, Tesla Battery Walls and Solar Panel concerns if a Fire, Costs/Efforts in Undergrounding Utilities, etc.

These workshops help guide and prioritize where the Village resources of time and money are invested for the coming 2025/2026 Fiscal Year.

Tuesday Feb 4th Regular City Council Meeting

* New Commission Appointments approved for our Forest & Beach Commission Neal Rutta and for Planning Commission Mel Ahlborn.
* Carmel Public Library Foundation (CPLF) / City of Carmel-by-the-Sea Partnership Draft Agreement for (internal) Restoration & Updates of our Harrison Memorial Library. The review of this draft guided updates needed for responsibilities of stakeholders, risk mitigation and payments to vendors for architect & construction. All public and council comments fully supported this as a timely and important City priority for desired project completion by the Library's centennial celebration in early 2028 with the financial support of generous benefactors. * License Plate Reader (Flock) Cameras - direction for March contract renewal. As approved, the City will execute a modified agreement with Flock Inc. for the continued use of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology, with provisions for the new smaller number of cameras leased (primarily for main entry & exit points), and language added to the agreement that protects the privacy of Carmel-by-the-Sea residents, employees and visitors.
