Celebrating 37 Years of Community Service

Our Village Housing Element is Adopted...Imperfect as it is!

Apr 8 special Planning Commission (voted 3 Yea/2 Ney) and City Council (voted 4 Yea/1 Ney) public meetings were held, back-to-back, to consider adoption of the Housing Element in time to meet mid April deadline. Both of these meetings were full of comments by the public, especially concerned about the potential use of our City-Owned sites to comply with this State Mandate for affordable housing in our 1 square mile, built out Village.  Our Commissioners and Council discussions were also extensive. The votes, as noted, concluded with reluctant Adoption - in large part to protect our Village from the significant risks of non-compliance.
Note: This weeks Carmel Pine Cone HERE, front page article and Paul Miller's page 18 editorial address this tough decision on this Adoption.

Apr 9/10 - Our City submitted, the now adopted, Village Housing Element to Sacramento HCD for certification.

Apr 15 or sooner - awaiting a HCD reply with formal certification any day now.

Visit our CRA Housing webpage for our Housing Element meeting video's, documents, press coverage and background.  Be sure to review the "Did You Know" and "Living Document" links at the top of this page.

Visit our CRA Local Control webpage for more on past and coming housing legislation and the grass roots organizations pushing back on Sacramento's one-size-fits all approach. This includes informative links, videos, press and more on the bills that increase penalties and remove local control of land use and zoning.  (updated constantly)

Our City's Housing Element project webpage contains more document redlines and readers guides and more at HOMECarmelbytheSea.com

REMINDER: assuming the anticipated State certification, there is significant work ahead on the many Housing Element programs and deliverables needing your community review and feedback. And as was noted - this is a living document.
